A Mom Never, Ever Leaves You
True story.
The idea began as a tribute to my mom. She read every word on this Blog. At this point in time here on Ataraxia that means mom and my sister are my number one fans. As is the case with ideas, this one expanded before I could get to the keyboard. Hence a Tribute To moms Everywhere. Enjoy and feel free to comment below.
In 1977 my Dad passed over. We had lived with his illness at home for over a year.
I was 17, dumb, and I let it destroy my attitude and behaviour.
In fact I’m sure it destroyed my life for two decades.
Only a long time after that destructive phase – the chaos titled My Life – did I slowly realize. He had never, ever left me at all. I was almost 62.
Fast forward to September 30, 2026 around 10:30 p.m.
My mom, after an extremely fast battle with cancer, lost.
Moved on. Passed over. The body died.

Yes, I grieved in solitude. Cried deeply. In our Rainbow Garden.
Yes, I can say I miss her in the broadest sense.
But she never, ever left me.
As long as I continue to live on this earth, she is right here inside of me. All the quirky little habits she had, I’ve had all my life too. I see her when I look at myself in the mirror.
That’s why I grieved only shortly. That’s why I don’t proclaim “I miss you” very often.
This essay is – on the side – about words.
“In the beginning was the word, and the word was with god, and the word was god.” John 1.1 KJV Bible.
The words we put out into the world.
What we choose to say to each other.
Which words we tell ourselves.
Which words I choose to share in Facebook. Words are extremely powerful They shape our attitudes, feelings and emotions.
(Sorry, sometimes I digress)
She is still here.
Many who know me, if asked, would probably say “that guy is weird ” but we humans are not cut from a template. We are not all the same. Not robots.
Moms everywhere? A pretty bold statement.
Generally speaking, moms are the definition of love for their children. Since Eve in the garden of Eden, childbirth is a painful thing. Yet we exist right now because a moms everywhere decided it was worth going through all that.
Moms will tell you that the birth of each child transformed their lives.
Moms hearts. Love hurts.
“All that I am, or ever hope to be, I owe to my angel mother.”
Abraham Lincoln
All that we are, we owe to our parents.
“Wait” you scream. You tell me your story about alcoholic parents that neglected or abused their children.
I respond to you who doubt this essay…
I’ll let you use my time machine. You go back to your younger mom or dad.
As your older self, you are 60.
You talk with them. ask the right questions.
You will be shocked to hear that they love their kids.
You see, parents are imperfect (I’m the perfect example of that). We are only humans.
Imperfect from the age of 7 to the grave.
The drug addict can love his child and still make his life a living hell.
So… A Tribute To Moms Everywhere.
Who are we after outgrowing our parents?
As we move on from early childhood, grow and evolve we may start to think I did that alone. The question is would you even exist without your mother?
Fortunately it is not the year 2200, where we may not even know that we where actually grown.
Every man, woman and child has an origin. Most people know their mother or at least who she was.
Wrap it up
We all have a choice, we can say she is gone, or we can look inside and feel the wonderful gift of life that she has given us. When you choose the later you will know that she has never left you at all.
If you choose your WORDS carefully, you create your future.
Your turn.
I invite you to use this space today to put out a heartfelt tribute to your Mom. That’s why I created these words for you.
You will need to work for it. Stay for awhile and think.
- Spend some time thinking about your words.
- Comment in the section below.
Thank you so much for spending time here.
Thank you Mom. This is for you.
