Welcome to Ataraxia

What does the word mean?

In Ancient Greek philosophy, ataraxia (Greek: ἀταραξία, from “a-“, negation and tarachē “disturbance, trouble”)—generally translated as “unperturbedness”, “imperturbability”, “equanimity”, or “tranquility” is a lucid state of robust equanimity characterized by ongoing freedom from distress and worry.

  • A state of freedom from emotional disturbance and anxiety.
  • Especially as an ongoing condition of soul-fulfilling attainment.
  • Unconditional tranquility.

Ataraxia is a journey to that goal, a way of learning to change the way we live.

Why are we here?

To enjoy a conversation on topics that I feel are important in these our modern times.
Life is – essentially – a journey. A magnificent, one-way journey filled with all the feelings, emotions and amazing beauty that life has to offer.
A caveat – although I am painfully aware of life’s suffering, negative experiences and trauma inherent in the journey. We are not here to discuss the negatives. We want to focus on the positive.

Patience is a virtue.

This is not – yet – a high frequency blog. I would love to build it up to the that but time will tell.

Retirement does not mean having an empty calendar.
If you check in and enjoy what you find here it is worth it for the two of us. Check back after awhile.
I will continue to work on this, making comments and email contact possible, writing as often as I can and dealing with my own discipline and craft of writing.

Above all, I do not wish to waste your time, I wish to give at least one of you something valuable. Then this work will not be in vain.

Since you’ve read this far, thank you for visiting.
